Nutrition in your nursery

In 2009 Organix and The Soil Association carried out research on the food served in nurseries across the UK - findings were published in the Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie Report and soon after the campaign Better Nursery Food Now was launched.

Unlike primary and secondary schools, there are no nutritional standards for nursery food. Here at Organix, we are keen to see this change to help ensure infants and toddlers get the best possible nutritional start in life.

Encouraging children to eat well, and enjoy a rich variety of fruit and vegetables through activities such as those suggested in the Taste for Life programme, are just some of the ways nursery practitioners can help ensure children are provided with every opportunity to enjoy good nutrition whilst in their care.

To find out more about the best standards of food provision for children in day care settings visit the Caroline Walker Trust website at www.cwt.org.uk (The Caroline Walker Trust (CWT) is a registered charity that promotes better public health through good food), here you will find easy to follow and practical to implement nutritional guidelines for children under the age of 5.
